Daily word from Open Door ~ July 2011

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. ~ I Thessalonians 5:23-34

And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: ~ Colossians 1:21-22

And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you: To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints. ~ I Thessalonians 3:12-13

"Suppose a nation in some distant Region should take the Bible for their only law Book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited! Every member would be obliged in conscience, to temperance, frugality, and industry; to justice, kindness, and charity towards his fellow men; and to piety, love, and reverence toward Almighty God ... What a Eutopia, what a Paradise would this region be."

--Diary and Autobiography of John Adams, Vol. III, p. 9.

From the story of Jonah - judgment was coming but God wanted to extend mercy

Your mercy Lord, how great it is

To overrule our sin!

So help us know Your righteousness

And choose to walk therein ~ D. De Haan from Our Daily Bread

God's judgment is certain, but so is His mercy.

Things to do each day:

Something that will bless God and people

Something that intentionally denies the flesh

Something that ministers to my family

Something special for my employer

Meditate on God's Word and apply it

Stir up the gift of God that is in me

Realize it is a joy to draw near to God

~ Prepare for a blessed life as I do such things

Do you know this hymn ~ the words are awesome

Christ has for sin atonement made
What a wonderful Savior!
We are redeemed, the price is paid
What a wonderful Savior!

I praise Him for the cleansing blood
What a wonderful Savior!
That reconciled my soul to God
What a wonderful Savior!

He cleansed my heart from all its sin
What a wonderful Savior!
And now He reigns and rules therein
What a wonderful Savior!

He gives me overcoming power
What a wonderful Savior!
And triumph in each trying hour
What a wonderful Savior!

What a wonderful Savior is Jesus, my Jesus!
What a wonderful Savior is Jesus, my Lord!

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14

That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Colossians 1:10

That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.

            ~ I Thessalonians 2:12

For many, love is just a word

A passing phase, a brief emotion

But love that honors Christ our Lord

Responds to Him with deep devotion

~ Hess from Our Daily Bread

Love in deed is love indeed!

If religious books are not widely circulated among the masses in this country, I do not know what is going to become of us as a nation. If truth be not diffused, error will be; If God and His Word are not known and received, the devil and his works will gain the ascendancy, If the evangelical volume does not reach every hamlet, the pages of a corrupt and licentious literature will; If the power of the Gospel is not felt throughout the length and breadth of the land, anarchy and misrule, degradation and misery, corruption and darkness will reign without mitigation or end. ~ Daniel Webster

A good leader usually develops his skill while being a good servant

He that cannot obey, cannot command. ~ Benjamin Franklin

You cannot do everything, but you can do something. Therefore, intentionally do something good for someone today.

Aren't you glad Jesus gave 100%

Lord please show me what is most important for my life today.

Written around 600 BC - certainly relevant today:

JER 4:22 For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

It is amazing the amount of time, effort and money some give to plot and perpetrate evil. Let us counter this with our time, effort, and money toward that which is good.

Christ in me the hope of glory

Oh that others might see

Not that I have a unique story

But a new life found in Thee

May people see Jesus in me each day

A Savior like no other is He

That the words I say and the prayers I pray

Might help others through Jesus be free

~ There is no eternity better than the one

                Jesus paid the price for.

"It cannot be emphasized too clearly and too often that this nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religion, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason, peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here."

            ~ Patrick Henry

My hope is built on nothing less

Than Jesus' blood and righteousness

I dare not trust the sweetest frame

But wholly lean on Jesus' Name

On Christ the solid Rock I stand

            ~ Edward Mote

John Quincy Adams:

• “Why is it that, next to the birthday of the Savior of the world, your most joyous and most venerated festival returns on this day [the Fourth of July]?" “Is it not that, in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior? That it forms a leading event in the progress of the Gospel dispensation? Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer's mission upon earth? That it laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity"?

--1837, at the age of 69, when he delivered a Fourth of July speech at Newburyport, Massachusetts.

O give me a spirit of peace, dear Lord

Midst the storms and tempests that roll

That I may find rest and quiet within

A calm buried deep in my soul

~ Dawe -from Our Daily Bread

God gives us strength to face our problems, not to flee from them.

It's true that charisma can make a person stand out for a moment, but character sets a person apart for a lifetime.

You build trust with others each time you choose integrity over image, truth over convenience, or honor over personal gain.

            ~ John Maxwell

"Without morals a republic cannot subsist any length of time; they therefore who are decrying the Christian religion, whose morality is so sublime and pure (and) which insures to the good eternal happiness, are undermining the solid foundation of morals, the best security for the duration of free governments."
~ Charles Carroll, signer of the Declaration of Independence

Romans 8:38-39: "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Therefore let us always run TO God and never FROM Him - no matter what happens.

"It is a great consolation for me to remember that the Lord, to whom I had drawn near in humble and child-like faith, has suffered and died for me, and that He will look on me in love and compassion." ~ Wolfgang A. Mozart

Lord, grant me a heart of compassion

So burdened for others' needs

That I will show your kindness

In attitudes, words, and deeds

~ Fitzhugh from Our Daily Bread
